About the Welsh Pony and Cob

Bold, willing, and intelligent. Welsh ponies and cobs are versatile and famously hardy. Section A (mountain pony) is a classic first pony; Section D (Welsh Cob) is powerful enough for adult riders.

Feeding & nutrition

Forage-based, restricted. Most do not need grain; a ration balancer suffices.

Health watch-outs

EMS, laminitis, melanomas in greys. Otherwise long-lived and robust.

Care tips

1

Native pony — easy keepers across all sections; restrict grazing.

2

Heavy feathering on Section C/D — keep clean to prevent scratches.

3

Strong, hard feet; many work barefoot for life.

4

Athletic and ambitious; match the rider's skill carefully.
