About Cutting Events
Cutting showcases the natural "cow sense" of the western stock horse. In competition, riders have 2.5 minutes to demonstrate their horse's ability to separate cattle from a herd and prevent them from returning. Once the rider drops the reins, the horse works independently, mirroring the cow's movements with athletic, lightning-fast reactions. Cutting represents the practical skills developed on working cattle ranches refined into a competitive art form.
