About Reining Events
Reining has been called "western dressage" and showcases the athletic ability and training of the western stock horse. Originating from cattle ranch work, reining demonstrates the quick turns, sliding stops, and agility needed to handle livestock. Riders guide their horses through precise patterns that include circles at various speeds, flying lead changes, 360-degree spins, rollbacks, backups, and the signature sliding stop. The ideal reining horse performs willingly and smoothly with minimal visible cueing.
